Understanding Fragrance Families
Fragrances are grouped into broad families that help predict how a scent will smell and feel:
- Floral — romantic, feminine, versatile (rose, jasmine, peony)
- Oriental/Amber — warm, rich, sensual (vanilla, sandalwood, oud)
- Fresh/Citrus — light, energetic, clean (bergamot, lemon, neroli)
- Woody — sophisticated, grounding (cedar, vetiver, patchouli)
Daytime vs. Evenings
Lighter, fresher scents with high citrus or aquatic notes work best in daytime — they're non-intrusive in close-contact situations like offices. Save heavier, richer orientals and ambers for evenings when you have more space to let the scent bloom.
Season Matters
Heat amplifies fragrance. In summer, lighter scents become more intense, so choose accordingly. In winter, heavier bases like vanilla and musks hold better in cold air.
How to Test Before You Buy
Always spray on skin, not paper — skin chemistry transforms a scent. Wait 30 minutes after spraying before deciding. Test no more than 3 fragrances per session to avoid nose fatigue.
The best fragrance is the one that smells like an enhanced version of you.
